Poached Pear with Goji Berry and Dry Fig in Red Sugar (CNY2019)

This comfy dessert would put a perfect end for my 9-courses Chinese New Year union dinner. Considering the aged would prefer healthy Chinese dessert, especially after a rich meal, a refreshing and nutritious fruity sweet soup would be suitable.
Chinese pear in winter is particularly sweet and juicy, good for making soup dessert. And I also put in dry fig and goji berry, both good for stomach and eyes. This dessert can be prepared a day before and kept in fridge. It can be served cool or reheated.
Serve 8
Ingredients –
Chinese pear, 4;
Dry fig, 2;
Goji berry, 2tbsp;
Red sugar, 1/2 cup, or brown sugar.


How to do –
1. Pears halved, peeled, and cored;

2. Put pears, figs and sugar in a soup pot, add in water till the pears are covered. Lid on and bring to boil, then simmer for 30mins in medium low heat;

3. After half an hour, put in the goji berries and simmer for 10 more minutes. Have a taste and adjust with more sugar if you want. But better not to be too sweet;

4. Serve in small bowls.
